South Carolina Proposes Teen Sexting Law

Legislators in South Carolina are currently working on changing teen sexting laws to impose fines on violators, according to WAFB.com. Under the current laws, teens caught sending sexually explicit photos of themselves can be charged with felonies. The new proposed law will replace the felony with a fine for underage violators. “It’s absolutely wrong to send sexually explicit messages through texting,” said Susan Ellis, who has a daughter in high school in South Carolina. “But [the fine is] a much better idea than charging a student with a felony.” There is much support for the new law in South Carolina. Texas City Places Restrictions on where Sex Offenders Live

A unanimous City Council vote in Burnet, Texas will place restrictions on where sex offenders can live, according to KXAN NBC News. The new law says that people convicted of child sexual assault or any sex crimes where the victim is younger than 17 cannot live within 1,000 feet of “where children gather.” The 1,000-foot restriction applies to playgrounds, parks, day care centers, skate parks, baseball and soccer fields, youth centers, schools and swimming pools. If a sex offender owns a home already, he or she will be allowed to stay. Renters will have six months to relocate to 1,000 feet away from any of these areas. Violators will face misdemeanor charges and fines. “Traveling Pastor” Indicted on Child Sexual Assault Charges

A “traveling pastor” based out of Austin, Texas has been arrested on child sexual assault charges, according to sources. Pastor Javier, aka Francisco Antonio Hernandez, was arrested in October after four female victims came forward. Hernandez, 53, is facing aggravated sexual assault of a child and indecency with a child charges. Hernandez began traveling to Austin-area homes starting in the 1960’s and hold no0ndenominational religious services. It was not discovered until this year that he has been possibly assaulting many children over the years. The first victim to come forward claimed she was assaulted in 1998, and Hernandez paid her $20 to keep quiet and also threatened to harm her.
