According to the Columbia Tribune, a man who had been evading police for criminal charges for over 7 years was finally sentenced on June 6. Kory D. Smith, 35, was sentenced to 12 years in prison after pleading guilty to a number of criminal charges. Texas Candidate Elected Despite Criminal Charges

According to KHOU News, Matt Smith is facing criminal charges of driving while intoxicated.  What makes this case interesting is that he has been elected the mayor of Argyle, Texas, while fighting the pending criminal charges. Argyle is a small town of approximately 3,000 people located about 40 miles northwest of Dallas.  Smith received 253 of the 493 votes cast in mayoral race, and he was able to defeat the incumbent.  In an email sent to the Denton Record-Chronicle, Smith said that he was honored to serve his fellow citizens. Smith was arrested for driving while intoxicated last January.  His attorney, Rick Hagen, says that the case is pending and they plan to dispute the criminal charges.
