A Child Protective Services (CPS) investigator in Dallas is facing child sexual assault charges, according to CBS News in Dallas. Nicholas Santos, 34, was arrested by Cedar Hill Police on March 4, according to CPS spokeswoman Melissa Gonzalez.
Gonzalez has been an investigator with the agency since 2006. He has been suspended since his arrest.
“We are conducting an internal investigation,” CPS said in a statement to CBS News. “If we determine that these criminal charges are true, he will be fired immediately. There is no place in Child Protective Services for employees who betray the public’s trust, or take advantage of young people we are supposed to protect.”
The victim does not appear to be a child that Santos was assigned to, but the investigation is still under way. While Santos is innocent until proven guilty, it is disturbing so see someone in a position of authority be accused of the very crimes they are supposed to be protecting children from.
